Got some battle damage on the trip. Hit a rock hidden in the tall grass. Good thing I was going slow. Bent the bash plate and crossover a bit. The bash plate does not go on and off quite as easy as before. This picture makes it look a lot worse than it really is.Saturday, August 8, 2009
Battle Damage
Got some battle damage on the trip. Hit a rock hidden in the tall grass. Good thing I was going slow. Bent the bash plate and crossover a bit. The bash plate does not go on and off quite as easy as before. This picture makes it look a lot worse than it really is.6000 mile service done. Again.
Repeated the 6000 mile service today at 8249 miles. Did it back at 2500 miles before the trip because I knew I would roll past 6000 during the trip.
The valves and the rocker end-play were a little loose.

The valves and the rocker end-play were a little loose. The sparkplugs all looked great.

Four qaurts of Amsoil 20-50W oil and a new filter.

The GS-911 did not detect any error messages. I cleared the service message and reset it for 12000 miles and completed the rest of the 6000 mile scheduled maintenance check-off list.

Upcoming Service
Changed the oil and filter at 2562 miles on the odometer. That's before I left on my trip back on July 11th. I thought I'd burn through a few quarts of oil pounding out the highway miles but all she used was about 3/4 of a quart over the last 5700 miles. That's 300 miles before the trip and the 5400 miles cross country and back along with some off-roading.

Now she sits in the garage awaiting an oil change, valve check, and tires. I have a pair of Shinko 705 tires in the garage but I am going to get a set of Heidenaus ordered. I've also ordered a GS-911 to check error codes and clear the service message.
She's clean though. Got most of the crud washed off.
